Tips for avoiding traffic

  • 1. Follow Mobile Traffic on Facebook or Twitter for time-sensitive updates on current traffic conditions.

  • 2. Check current traffic on the "Home Page". The map is interactive (zoom in, zoom out, move around) or check Google Maps. Click the options in the top left corner and select "Traffic". You can also download the Google Maps app for iPhone or Android and use the traffic overlay on the app as well.

  • 3. Check your route for any reported delays, hazards, closures or accidents on the Waze traffic app. If left running in the background, the app will audibly warn you of the aforementioned traffic situations in real-time as they are reported by other Waze users. Waze will also re-route you in advance if it detects a delay on your selected route.

  • 4. Listen to the scanner live for traffic accidents paged out at Broadcastify.com. Currently, the City of Mobile Fire Department provides their own feed. I provide the feed for Mobile County Sheriff, Fire and EMS. Any Fire/EMS calls outside of City of Mobile will likely be heard on this feed.

  • 5. Check the ALDOT Cams for live traffic in certain areas. Most cams that are viewable in Mobile and Baldwin Counties are along I-10 between Exit 19 and Exit 35.

  • The information from #2, #3, #4 and #5 are all used to deliver 95% of updates on the Facebook and Twitter pages. The other 5% comes from reports posted to the Facebook page or tweeted to the Twitter account.
